Quick info

This 100% Arabica coffee from Colombia offers flavors of dried stone fruits, cream, and citrus. It is grown in a region with gentle hills and fertile soils, located near the Valle de Laboyos and the impressive 400-meter-high Salto de Bordones waterfall. Through fair and sustainable prices, the farmers can continue their traditional farming methods and secure their farms in the long term.

The farmers

The farmers who grow this coffee are members of the cooperative Grupo Asociativo El Bombo Pitalito Inza, or Asobombo for short. Asobombo was founded by Luis Alfredo Diaz to create access to better markets and secure fair, sustainable prices for their coffee. Today, the members of the cooperative in Huila, Caquetá, Cauca, and Nariño are organic certified and sell their coffee through Asobombo to achieve higher returns for their work.
The farmers handpick the ripe, red coffee cherries and process them directly on their farms. After depulping the cherries with small hand-operated depulpers, the coffee is fermented for 30 to 34 hours. The fermented coffee is then washed in clean water and dried in parabolic dryers. The coffee is regularly turned to ensure even drying, which takes about 17 to 20 days.

The Nature

The Huila region is one of the most famous coffee-growing areas in Colombia. The region is characterized by gentle hills and fertile soils and is located near the Valle de Laboyos as well as the impressive 400-meter-high waterfall Salto de Bordones. Huila is located in the southwest of the country and has about 1.125 million inhabitants.
Together with Cauca and Nariño, Huila is part of the Colombian massif, also known as Nudo de Almaguer. This mountain range provides up to 70% of the drinking water and agricultural water for the Colombian population.
The Magdalena River, the largest river in Colombia, flows through the region and provides the coffee plantations with ample water. It also contributes directly and indirectly to about 86% of the country's gross domestic product.

The Impact

Colombia has been producing and exporting coffee since the early 19th century, known for its full body, vibrant acidity, and rich aftertaste. Thanks to the diverse climatic and geographical conditions of the country, unique flavor profiles develop in the different regions of Colombia. This also means that harvest times can vary significantly, allowing fresh harvests to be available almost year-round.
In recent years, Colombia has increasingly focused on the specialty coffee sector, changing the trade and the way farmers operate. More and more often, the best beans are marketed separately, often under specific brands or with a special story.
In addition to the different flavor profiles, Colombia has also significantly expanded its certification options over the past ten years. The most commonly encountered certifications are Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, and Organic.

The taste

This 100% Arabica coffee from Colombia is suitable for both espresso and filter coffee, offering a balanced blend of flavors from dried stone fruits, cream, and a subtle citrus note. The versatile flavor nuances make it an ideal choice for various preparation methods.
